A-Side
Set in 1971 London, A-Side follows Daniel's journey of self-discovery through the glam rock scene.
For my final graduation film, I pitched to write and direct A-Side - an incredibly personal story about my own journey with gender expression. Pre-production took place over an extensive nine months - in this time the script developed into something very emotional sophisticated for a 15 minute short film. More than anything, A-Side felt like my answer to the androgynous influence of the glam rock movement. My whole life I’ve felt conflicted with the expectations of manhood - A-Side is a very intimate story for all those who have felt a deeper struggle with their own identity. Essentially, I wanted to created something that shed light on a typically overlook aspected of the LGBTQIA+ film space - gender fluidity. Growing up I frequently looked towards David Bowie as a strong influence on my own gender expression. With A-Side our character follows a very similar journey, looking towards the liberation of the glam rock movement and discovery the value of self-acceptance in the face of adversity. |

Behind the scenes
COMMERCIAL editor for 'The Savourists'
|
In partnership with the Kodak Nahemi competition, Arts University Bournemouth sets us the challenge of creating a thirty second commercial for 'The Savourists' new low calorie snack Crunchits. Working strictly to the client's product brief - we were tasked to deliver something fun that emphasised snacking without compromise. As editor on the project, I was tasked with creating something that met the client's needs but equally hit key comedic beats with a rapid fire style edit.

Behind the scenes
editor for 'our place in the red seats'
|
For our second year final major project at Arts University Bournemouth, we were tasked with shooting exclusively on location. Working as editor, DIT, colourist and script supervisor on this short film taught me the difference in shooting for documentary and working without script. Whilst interviews were conducted I would note anything that would stand out in the edit, meanwhile I would transcribe what the contributors were saying. This process developed my skills using Shotput Pro and Davinchi Resolve, as well as script supervising in a different capacity to narrative filmmaking.
