X-men Apocalypse

X-men Apocalypse is the fourth x-men film directed by Bryan Singer and stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Rose Bryne. After the reawakening of the world's first mutant 'En Sabah Nur' the x-men must re group, along with a little help from some new mutants to stop the world wide 'Apocalypse'.

This was a fairly ambitious attempt for the x-men franchise, closing old doors and reopening new ones as they re-reboot fan favourite characters, Singer takes another leap of faith with the entire film series. But in the end, X-men Apocalypse added beautifully to the X-men saga. Whilst a fun film it certainly wasn't perfect, certain key elements to it's story telling really brought it down. 

With what is probably the best opening scene in any superhero film we were straight away introduced to the film's plot and learnt crucial elements to important characters that were to be re-introduced later in the film. Singer's choice of opening scene was an incredible way to start the film. After a fantastically engaging scene we were all ready for a two hour extravaganza, however this certainly wasn't the case, instead we were given a brilliantly fun x-men film, with an awfully underdeveloped plot that somehow was still really enjoyable.

An important aspect to the film's success was it's incredibly casting. Fassbender, as usual gave an emotionally stunning performance as the torn Magneto as did Lawrence who yet again owned her role as Mystique. One of my favourite characters, however not a mutant, was Bryne as Moira Mactaggert who too performed wonderfully as the gorgeous, adventurous FBI agent, from start to finish Bryne performed amazingly and was the one of most interesting characters in the film. One particular scene, involving her and McAvoy truly gave me chills due to the stunning acting quality. The other two characters in the film were Quicksilver and Jean Grey. Evan Peters yet again gave a fantastic performance as Quicksilver, with hilarious one liners and a surprising deeper look into the speedy wise cracker mind, he was fantastic throughout. We all thought it would be impossible to top the first Quicksilver scene but it's safe to say they took inspiration from his first scene and multiplied it on a huge scale. But Jean Grey character was the best best part of the film, she was the most developed and in her final scene we were all finally shown the true extent of her power. Another positive points about the film was it's amazing visual effects. Every scene was polished of with perfect CGI which added to character design and the large scale destruction scenes nearer the end of the film. 

Although the film had a stand offish plot and a weak villan, the casting was faultless and gave us some great new characters,  it  showed most of the teams full extent of their abilities and felt like a great homage to the classic 80's x-men animation. Whilst it's not the BEST x-men film its up there with the previous two
