Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Out of the Shadows is directed by Dave Green and stars Megan Fox, Will Arnett and Stephen Amell and is the sequel to the 2014 Ninja Turtles live action remake. This time around the turtles are back to retrieve the purple ooze and take down the krang whilst trying to fit into society.
I was very much looking forward to see this film as I really enjoyed the first one and I was not at all disappointed with it. I must say the reviews have been so mixed to negative about the movie, don't listen to them whilst I enjoyed it personally and my opinions shouldn't have an effect on anyone else's experience it is a fun family film that was taken too seriously by critics. The film had a fantastic opening scene that showed the turtles base jumping off the Chrysler building with skateboards whilst cracking their usual one liners and this was very fun to watch. The chemistry between the turtles and there relationship was so much better than in the first one, they're more cheeky and have better lines to work with and unlike last time it shows you that they are just teenagers. The action was great throughout and made for an amazing superhero film, it offered car chases, plane crashes all done wonderfully. Unlike most people I do like Fox as April O'Neil, although people feel she is there just for 'eye candy' (which she most certainly offers) I like the way she worked with the turtles and was a loyal badass sidekick rather then being the cliché damsel in distress. Although I enjoyed the film immensely it does have some weak points that pull it down a bit. Stephen Amell as Casey Jones was awful, he overacted in some places and in others didn't act with any energy at all, his character felt very flat and for someone who is a huge character in the comics he felt completely un-neccisory and didn't feel like an important addition. There was also one scene that didn't make any sense and it showed April O'Neil giving a live report for the channel 6 news, this stood out for me as she is fired form her job at channel 6 news in the previous film and is never hired back, this left me baffled as it has not explained how April managed to got her job back. In places the film was slow and took a while to get to the point but is not a huge problem as the action scenes and fantastic voice acting from Noel Fisher as Michelangelo carried the film extremely well. Whilst the chemistry between the turtles is far better than the first film, and the action sequence levae you thirsty for more, the plot was incredibly mediocre and the acting was absolutley horrible. I am going to give Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Out of the Shadows: 5.7/10
