Ghostbusters is directed by Paul Feig and stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon and Chris Hemsworth and is the brand new movie rebooted from the 80's classic. As this is a completely rebooted film franchise the idea of Ghostbusters doesn't exist in the film at all, these four ladies are THE Ghostbusters. After paranormal activity being amplified throughout the city, ghost enthusiasts and old friends Erin Gilbert and Abby Yates must put their past behind them and use their physicist skills to create a team that fights and captures the ghosts hence forth the Ghostbusters are born.
Sadly since this film had such a bad reputation from the word go I don't think it will earn as near as much money as it deserves because some people have just set their face against the film and are so stuck by their opinions. However I think differently, honestly I thought this was a good movie and I really enjoy it. All four of these ladies are absolutely amazing in the film, as usual McCarthy and Wiig were hilarious and both made good scientists in the film because they actually knew what they were doing and knew what they wanted to get done, McKinnon and Jones though made the team for me, they were both so funny, with McKinnon's crazy personality and Jones' level headed sassiness the contrast between all four of them was so different but it made their relationship perfect as they individually had something about them. The plot was great and actually managed to differ from the original, instead of chewing it up and spitting it out again. The script was funny and made me laugh throughout the film even more so when delivered by McKinnon, as well as the special effects which were visually impressive to watch and made fan favourite things like the ghosts and the proton packs more real then ever. The CGI also made the ghosts pretty scary which is such and incredible thing because you actually felt like they were a threat therefore this made the film even more exciting/frighting to watch. Although there are so many good elements to the film there are few bad ones too. After a spooky opening scene the first 20 minutes of the film was quite slow as it took a while for the film to pick up luckily it did. The old Ghostbusters cameo's were a bit silly and kind of forced, it just felt a little unnecessary to have them so awkwardly placed in the film. I also had a problem with the villain, he didn't pose any threat until a certain point in the film, he lacked character development and was just a little weasel who wanted to destroy New York for no genuine reason. When you put most of these things together in the film it was just a little cheesy and made scenes a bit silly but then again what Ghostbusters film isn't. I won't be the last to deny this movie's reputation is pretty awful after it's (according to the fans) horrible marketing campaign, the trailers were awful, the TV spots were awful, the advertisement was awful and it manage to earn itself an award for the most unliked trailer on YouTube. The fans had a whole bunch of problems with the look of this film, the main one being the Ghostbusters being an all female group. Then this brought out the controversial side of things and caused many people to fall out over this movie. I personally enjoyed every trailer and have loved Paul Feig's attempt at this film as he had so much enthusiasm toward the project as I have seen on many interviews and this review was based on how good I thought the film was and not what I think about woman's rights. After some joke making, proton pack blasting and Ghost butt kicking. I am going to give Ghostbusters: 8.4/10
