Alice Through The Looking Glass is directed by James Bobin and stars Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Sacha Baron Cohen and Anne Hathaway and is the sequel to the 2010 live action remake of the classic Alice in Wonderland. The film is set a fair few years after Alice first discovered wonderland as she magically falls through a mirror she finds herself caught up in a much more depressing kingdom, when she finds the Hatter is ill due to the loss of his family many years ago that is now dwelling on him, Alice enrols on a quest to travel back in time and prevent the future events from ever happening.
Now I was very excited to finally get an Alice in wonderland sequel, as I was a huge fan of the first film back in 2010 so I had high hopes for this movie, sadly they were not quite reached. The film had a very ambitious plot but sadly like many films I have seen this year had to try and cram as many different sub plots in as they could, there was: Alice saving Hatter, Alice being hunted down by Time, Alice trying to succeed in the real world as a sea captain, Alice trying to have a good relationship with her mother and then within twenty minutes left of the film they through in another plot about how the queen of hearts became so evil. This just feel too much, I mean I am all for ambitious plots and various relative sub plots but this is just scrambled and suffocating, it starts off very well but slowly gets more and more jumbled. One of my biggest pet hates with the film was the execution from nearly very character. 80% of the films acing was laughable most evidently when the two young sisters are fighting over who at the last jam tart. My god, it was awful it made the atmosphere of the entire film cringey and that above all things by far one of the worst things I personally can feel in a film, it makes me feel awkward and It bugs the hell out of me, I feel it's poor casting and bad writing were shown. However, I do really love Mia Wasikowska as Alice, she's curious, fearless and adventurous! Alice is one of my favourite disney characters ever and I love her portrayal of her in both films now and I appreciate it very much. I also really liked the moral of the film, Disney again manages to set out a heart warming ending to a kids film that teaches you to always be yourself in front of our family and never try to be anyone else , you are you and as an individual you're perfect. I was disappointed by the film as the first one was so good, I thought the acting wasn't up to standard especially for disney and was too awkwardly cheesy in most scenes and characters that really got pn your nerves. I am going to give Alice Through The Looking Glass: 5.3/10
