Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie is directed by Mandie Fletcher and stars Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley, the film tells how Edna and Patsy travel to the south of France to avoid police attention after they accidentally killed Kate Moss at a party.
24 years after the original TV program we were all treated to one last glance at the Fabulous life of Edna and Patsy, sadly though age really had hit home and this once glamorous comedy had become a tired hour and a half long christmas special. The script lacked so much laughable content and made nearly every character's performance seem rather average, apart from Lumley who as usual gave of Patty's drunk, outrageous persona which was indeed fabulous. The plot was also very week and straight away didn't give any indication of picking up it just dragged on and thinking about it was very forgettable. The advertisement for the film made it seem like the BIG movie that all the fans have been waiting but the film didn't seem big and amazing at all, it was more like a daytime documentary then a movie, it was almost like the budget was so small. The jokes were very dry and and the atmosphere and the energy in the audience was flatter then the pace of the film. There was also a bombardment of celebrity cameos in the film that were not really put int the right places in the film although I do like Rebel Wilson's short scene on the plane and I also like that scene in general. If the film took this quick snappy dialogue idea and carried it throughout the whole film it wouldn't drag on so much. This is not a bad movie as there are indeed some signs of a good film that homages to the original television series, but since the comedic element of the two characters was almost unheard of in the film despite efforts made by both Saunders and Lumley it did not make for a fabulous time and therefore left me wondering if it just should have been left at the TV program. I am going to give Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie: 4.7/10
